July 14th: Nation Shark Awareness Day

Happy Shark Awareness Day!!! Today is basically a tease for Shark Week, which begins on August 4th, so mark your calendars. Let’s face it, sharks are scary as shit! But they are sooo cool. Except I refuse to swim at the beach when I can’t seen through the water. This is what I see happening…

Some shark fun facts:

-Sharks can smell one drop of blood in a million drops of water

-Sharks can hear a fish from a mile away

-The sharks that we know today actually developed in the Dinosaur Age

-The Hammerhead Shark’s head is actually equipped with electrical sensors giving them superior hunting skills

-There are about 350 species of sharks

-Sharks can dislocate their top jaw to help them hunt and eat

-Wale sharks are the world’s biggest fish, and with the biggest families. One wale shark can give birth to 300 live shark pups in one litter

-The prehistoric shark Megalodon probably grew to 60 feet

-The gestation period for a pregnant female shark can range from five months to two years

Finding Nemo made sharks seem kinda okay to me lol. I love Bruce!

Shark fishing isn’t completely frowned upon, however the practice of completely stripping them of their fins then releasing them back into the ocean to drown and die is extremely unacceptable. So show some love to these crazy scary creatures. And tune into Shark Week!
