Happy National Ice Cream Day!!!! The ice cream holiday of all ice cream holidays!!!!
I think as stated before, ice cream goes back to the Ancient Romans and China. Ice was brought down from the high mountains at the Emperor’s insistence and then either mixed with milk and fruit or topped with fresh fruit. The predesessor of ice cream was a delicacy only enjoyed by royalty or high status. In the 1600’s in France, ice cream was first available to the public. The first account of ice cream in America was in 1744, where colonists dined with a Governor. It wasn’t until 1851 that ice cream was commercially produced. Then in 1904, the first “cone” was produced at the World’s Fair in St. Louis. This was with the help of local waffle makers. In 1926, the first freezer was produced and therefore beginning the ice cream industry.
Some of the top ice cream brands:
-Ben & Jerry’s
Did you know…?
-the average licks it takes to finish one scoop of ice cream is 50? Can you imagine? A large is 3 scoops… good luck.
-the largest ice cream sundae in history was in Edmonton, Alberta? It weighed over 24 tons. That’s 48,000 lbs. Or 768,000 ounces… which is about 153,600 small two scoop cones.
-the state of California produces the most ice cream in the U.S.?
-the United States celebrated the victory of WWII with ice cream…
I would have felt the same way kid.
-Brain freeze is caused by the ice cream touching the roof of your mouth therefore causing nerve endings to dilate?
(hahahahahaha!!!!! I can’t stop laughing at this one! HAHAHAHA! The more I look at it… HAHAH!)
-the U.S. is the country with the highest ice cream consumption? Rock on. USA! USA! USA! lol
A few years ago I found out about the ice cream course offered at Penn State. I was like “whaaaaaaaaaat?!” Sign me up!!! Ugh, what I would do to be able to take that course. Ice cream is one of the things I know, and I can’t see myself doing anything else. So I need to take that course and then we can proceed with our ice cream shop business plan!!!
So today eat all kinds of ice cream with no judgement… you know that’s right. Thank goodness I work tonight!!!! So happy ice creaming!!!!
