August 19th: National Aviation Day

Happy National Aviation Day! Today is dedicated to the men who made fundamental breakthroughs in the air control; the Wright Brothers. Orville and Wilbur Wright created a flying machine that gave the pilot the power to steer and keep the machine leveled. The first flight was in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903. Today is Aviation Day because it is also Orville’s birthday and he was the first man to fly it.

I’ve been to the Kitty Hawk Wright’s Brother Museum and it is really awesome. The monument is huge and sits atop the big hill. Whenever we stay in Outerbanks, we stay at the hotel which you can literally see the monument from. When we went, I remember going through the museum and Kimberly and I were discussing who would be which Wright brother. I think because Orville was the youngest… that was me. Woot! Plus he had a pretty awesome mustache so that was definitely a given.

The Wright brothers both worked with bicycles and that helped influence their vision with the flying machine.

Now today is not just about the Wright Brothers but also every person who ever took part in the history of Aviation. Amelia Earheart, Charles Lindbergh, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, and Glenn Curtis just to name a few.
